Coverage: all of Haringey — N4, N6, N8, N10, N11, N15, N17 and N22, including Tottenham, Wood Green, Crouch End, Hornsey, Muswell Hill, Seven Sisters and Harringay.
What this covers: fitting and plumbing in kitchen sinks and taps, waste and traps, slow or smelly sinks, leaks under the sink, plumbing in washing machines and dishwashers, and filtered or boiling-water taps — the water side of a kitchen.
Not a kitchen-plumbing job? A single dripping or seized tap is Tap Repair & Installation; a blockage beyond the sink and trap is Blocked Drains; fitting a new washing machine or dishwasher on its own is Washing Machine & Dishwasher Installation; water escaping out of sight is Leak Detection; and the units, worktops or electrics need a kitchen fitter or electrician.
Renting or a council tenant? Kitchen repairs are your landlord’s responsibility; council tenants use the council repairs route. More in the FAQs.
Costs: anything from clearing a trap to a refit’s worth of pipework — see what it costs ↓.

Why kitchen sinks block — fat, grease and the trap
The kitchen sink blocks for reasons the rest of the house doesn’t: fat, oil and grease. Poured down warm, they cool and set hard, catching food waste and slowly closing up the trap and waste pipe — and Thames Water lists fat and oil among the main causes of blockages.1 The trap under the sink does two jobs — holds a water seal that keeps drain smells out, and catches debris — so a slow or smelly sink is very often the trap or the branch waste, which a plumber can strip and clear.
Prevention is simple: scrape plates into the bin, let fat set and bin it rather than pouring it away, and run hot water through after washing up. If the problem is past the sink and trap — out in the drain run itself — that’s Blocked Drains. In the east of the borough, the Green Lanes food strip makes grease a familiar local cause of blocked kitchen waste.
Sinks, taps and appliance connections
Fitting a kitchen sink and tap is the supply and waste behind it: connecting hot and cold, setting the trap and waste so it drains and seals, and fitting isolation valves so the next repair is quick. Modern kitchen taps add choices — mixer, filtered, or boiling-water taps — though all of them feel hard water keenly: Thames Water supplies the borough with hard water, and scale builds on spouts, cartridges and the workings of a boiling-water tap, which is where a softener sometimes earns its keep.2
Plumbing in a washing machine or dishwasher means the right supply and waste connection, with backflow protection so dirty water can’t be drawn back into the supply — a requirement of Schedule 2, paragraph 15 of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.3 For a new appliance on its own, see Washing Machine & Dishwasher Installation.

The kitchens — and their quirks — follow the housing.
West — Muswell Hill, Highgate, Crouch End, Hornsey, Fortis Green, Alexandra Park. Period homes often have deep Belfast sinks and old waste runs squeezed into tight original kitchens, so a change of layout means rerouting supply and waste; hard-water scale is heaviest on long-standing taps here.
Centre — Wood Green, Turnpike Lane, Bounds Green, Bowes Park, Noel Park. Flats and conversions, where a leak under the sink can reach the home below, and several flats may share a waste stack — so isolating cleanly and access shape the job.
East — Tottenham, Bruce Grove, Seven Sisters, South Tottenham, West Green, St Ann’s. The Green Lanes restaurant strip makes fat and grease a familiar local cause of blocked kitchen waste; a dense mix of estates and conversions, with council tenants using the council’s repairs route.5
North-east — Tottenham Hale, Northumberland Park, White Hart Lane, Broadwater Farm. New-build flats usually have integrated appliances and concealed plumbing, so a dishwasher or washing-machine connection sits behind a unit, and access can run through a managing agent.
South edge — Harringay/Green Lanes, Finsbury Park, Manor House, Stroud Green. Boundary-sensitive, so confirm you’re in Haringey if you’ll need the council route; older terraces share the tight-layout, old-waste-run quirks.

Editorial estimate only — broad indicative ranges to sense-check a quote, not regulated rates, not market data and not a published cost survey. These cover the plumbing only — units, worktops and electrics are separate trades. Layout changes and access move the figure most; always confirm what’s included first.
A local factor: all of Haringey is inside the London-wide Ultra Low Emission Zone,6 and controlled parking zones can affect where a plumber parks — worth a word when you book (the Congestion Charge doesn’t reach Haringey).
