It started with a tradesman
Our founder’s father spent his working life on the tools, and the hardest part of the job often wasn’t the work — it was getting found. Like many good tradespeople, he paid out month after month to expensive lead-generation sites, watching a real share of what he earned go straight back out the door in fees just to keep the phone ringing.
That’s the problem this site was built to fix. Verified Plumbers exists so that being listed is affordable and predictable for plumbers, and so that the people looking for one can actually trust what they’re seeing — honest verification on one side, a fair cost on the other.
How the directory works at this stage
We built Verified Plumbers across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, borough by borough. Every business listed must pass our 16-Point Check before it appears on the site; listings are then reviewed annually, and businesses that no longer meet the standard can be removed.
What Verified Plumbers is — and what it isn’t
Verified Plumbers is a verification and listing service. We confirm each plumbing business is who it says it is, has evidence of public liability insurance, and — for gas work — holds current Gas Safe registration; we list the businesses that pass, borough by borough, with the details to contact them directly.

Who runs Verified Plumbers
Adiel isn’t a plumber — and for a verification directory, that’s the point. The work here isn’t doing plumbing; it’s establishing whether a business is legitimate, insured, registered and trading honestly: reading company records, confirming insurance and registration, checking trading history and reputation. Running the directory independently of the trades it lists means no engineer is marking their own homework, and there’s a real, named person accountable for what’s on this site — not an anonymous “editorial team.”
How a business gets listed: the 16-Point Check
Every business is run through our 16-Point Check before it’s listed, and again at each annual review. The sixteen checks fall across six areas:
Photo ID, proof of address, and registered or trading address confirmed.
Checked against the issuing register where one exists — the Gas Safe Register for gas work, with scope of competence noted.
Evidence of current public liability cover from the policy schedule. Customers should still confirm cover directly where the job calls for it.
Registration, active trading status, strike-off and insolvency screening and director status, against Companies House and the Insolvency Service.
Public records, cross-platform review aggregation, and behaviour-pattern review.
A duplicate and identity-match check, so a removed business can’t re-list under a new name.
A business that passes is listed; one that doesn’t isn’t. We re-verify every listing on its anniversary each year, monitor for material changes in between, and remove any business that no longer meets the standard. Verification here is a current status, not a badge earned once and kept forever.

Each listing shows you at a glance who you’re dealing with and what backs them. The verification badges are the visible result of the 16-Point Check:
- Reviews from across the web. Where public review profiles exist, we may show or summarise signals from Google, Trustpilot, Checkatrade and other major sources, with links back to the originals. We don’t authenticate individual reviews — we use them for a broader reputation picture than any single source.
- A workmanship guarantee badge, where one’s offered. The listing shows the term the plumber offers (1, 3, 6 or 12 months), and you can filter to show only plumbers who offer one. The guarantee is the plumber’s own commitment to you.
- Their services, their area, and an indicative hourly rate — enough to shortlist before you commit to anything.
When you’ve found the right plumber, Show number reveals their direct line and Get Quote sends your enquiry straight to them — to that one business, free to you, with no middleman in the job.
How listings work — and how we make money
You should know how a directory pays its bills, because that tells you whether you can trust what it shows you.
- Plumbers pay a flat monthly fee to be listed. That’s our main income — a fixed subscription, not a charge per enquiry. There’s no per-lead cost to recover by padding a quote. This is the deliberate alternative to the lead-gen model that started this site.
- Sponsored placement is optional and always labelled. A business can pay for more prominent placement, marked Sponsored. Sponsorship buys visibility — it doesn’t buy a place without passing the 16-Point Check, and it doesn’t change a business’s verification status, badges or reviews.
What we don’t do: we don’t charge you, the customer, anything; we don’t sell your enquiry to multiple traders; and outside of clearly-marked Sponsored slots, no business ranks above another for paying more.
How we’re different from the big national directories
Most national directories run on volume: any trade, anywhere, with your enquiry often sold on to several businesses at once. We went narrower and deeper.
- Plumbers only — our categories, checks and guidance are built around plumbing, heating, drainage and water-related work.
- London only — every borough page is written for that borough’s water supplier, hard-water context and housing stock.
- Reviews from across the web — a broader reputation picture than any single review source.
- Verification depth over directory size — fewer businesses, checked before listing, and reviewed every year.
- Your enquiry, one plumber — no lead auction, no per-lead fee.

No plumber, manufacturer or supplier pays to influence what our guides say. Verified Plumbers is an independent directory. We verify and list plumbing businesses — we don’t carry out the work. For gas work, always confirm the engineer’s current Gas Safe registration before work starts.
