What the rules require — Boiler Plus and Part L
A boiler installation in England has to meet a defined standard, and a good engineer builds the quote around it. Under the Boiler Plus standard, every new gas boiler installed in England must achieve at least 92% ErP seasonal efficiency — effectively a condensing boiler — and be installed with time and temperature controls (a programmer or timer plus a room thermostat) that switch the boiler off when there’s no demand. Because a boiler is controlled work under the Building Regulations, a registered engineer self-certifies the installation through the Gas Safe competent-person scheme — notifying Building Control on your behalf — so you should receive a Building Regulations compliance certificate afterwards, along with the Benchmark commissioning checklist completed and signed.
