Are you a plumber covering Putney?

Use the search above to find a local expert

Coverage: Putney SW15, including East Putney, West Putney, Putney Heath and the Embankment. Confirm your postcode when you call.

What this covers: new and replacement combi, system and regular boilers, flue and controls, system preparation and filter, and — where you’re considering it — the heat-pump alternative. Before specifying, the installer should assess heat loss, radiator sizing, hot-water demand, incoming mains flow, gas rate and pipe sizing, flue route, condensate route and controls; a dirty or fragile system may need more than a basic flush.

Compliance: a Gas Safe installer self-certifies the work and notifies Building Control; you should receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate and a completed Benchmark logbook.

Costs: get a written quote confirming the boiler, controls, flush, filter and notification.

What a compliant Putney boiler install looks like

Since April 2018, every new gas boiler fitted in an existing English home must meet the Boiler Plus standard: a minimum 92% ErP seasonal efficiency, and time and temperature controls (a programmer and room thermostat with boiler interlock).1 If you’re fitting a combi, it must also include one additional energy-saving measure — flue gas heat recovery, weather compensation, load compensation, or a qualifying smart control with automation and optimisation.1 A quote that doesn’t name the control and the combi measure isn’t a Boiler Plus-compliant quote.

On Putney’s hard water, a good installer should prepare the heating system properly at installation: cleaning and flushing appropriate to its condition, a permanent in-line filter and inhibitor on final fill, in line with BS 7593:2019+A1:2024.2 If testing shows heavy contamination or fragile pipework, the installer should specify a suitable cleaning method rather than assume a basic flush. Scale protection for relevant potable-water components is a separate design decision.

The certificates that prove it was done right

A boiler is a “controlled service” under Building Regulations, so the paperwork matters as much as the fit. A Gas Safe registered installer self-certifies the work and notifies your local authority through the Gas Safe Register within 30 days; you then receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate in the post.3 You should also get a completed Benchmark commissioning checklist, which manufacturers commonly require for warranty activation.4 Keep both: the compliance certificate is commonly requested during a sale, and resolving missing notification or obtaining alternative evidence may take time and involve cost, depending on the circumstances. If an installer can’t explain how they’ll notify the install, choose another.

Thinking beyond gas? Heat pumps and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

For a property already on mains gas, a like-for-like gas replacement may be considered alongside lower-carbon options. As at 17 July 2026, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers £7,500 for eligible air-to-water, ground-source or water-source heat pumps and £5,000 for an eligible biomass boiler, subject to the scheme rules.5 From 21 July 2026, the approved grant categories also provide £2,500 for eligible residential air-to-air heat pumps. For eligible applications from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027, qualifying off-gas-grid properties replacing oil or LPG heating may receive £9,000 for an eligible air-to-water or ground-source heat pump, subject to the scheme rules.5 The scheme is installer-led through an MCS-certified installer. A heat-loss survey and emitter assessment come first.

Safety first

If you smell gas: no electrical switches, no flames, open windows if safe, leave, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 from outside.6

Carbon monoxide. A badly-fitted flue or an unsafe install is a CO risk. Fit an audible alarm that complies with BS EN 50291, and never let anyone talk you into moving a flue or boiler without notifying it.7

Gas Safe only. Only a Gas Safe registered engineer may install a gas boiler and self-certify it — we don’t list anyone for gas work who isn’t. Ask to see the Gas Safe ID card and check it covers boiler installation.8

Find a verified boiler installer by district

Postcode coverage varies by listing — confirm yours when you call.

  • Putney High Street & town centre (SW15) — flats and conversions may have restricted boiler, flue or condensate routes; a change of flue position or work affecting a managed façade needs the relevant approval.
  • East Putney & Putney Hill (SW15) — houses with higher hot-water demand may suit a system boiler and cylinder, but the choice should follow heat-loss, demand and incoming-flow tests rather than building age alone.
  • West Putney & Putney Heath (SW15) — larger homes should be assessed for heat loss, radiator sizing, hot-water demand, mains flow and gas-supply capacity before a combi or system boiler is specified.
  • Putney Embankment & riverside developments (SW15) — some flats use communal plant or HIUs rather than individual boilers. In managed blocks, freeholder approval and façade restrictions may determine whether a boiler or flue can be relocated.
  • Roehampton / Alton Estate (SW15) — council stock where the council arranges heating replacements for its tenants.
  • Southfields edge (SW18/SW15) — in older terraces, the installer should confirm a suitable internal condensate route, which may be distant from the proposed boiler position, and test system condition before choosing the cleaning method.

What a boiler installation costs in Putney

Editorial estimate only, observed across independent Gas Safe contractors in early 2026 — not regulated rates, market data or a published cost survey. Putney is outside the central Congestion Charge zone but inside the London-wide ULEZ (all boroughs since 29 August 2023).9 Cost turns on boiler type, whether you move the boiler, and system condition.

JobTypical range

Frequently asked questions

Boiler Plus applies to new gas boilers fitted in existing English homes: at least 92% ErP with time and temperature controls, with one additional qualifying measure for a new combi. New-build dwellings follow the applicable Approved Document L route.

Yes — a Gas Safe installer notifies the work within 30 days and you should receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate plus the completed Benchmark commissioning checklist. Keep both; check the manufacturer’s warranty terms for its activation requirements.

BS 7593 calls for appropriate system cleaning, filtration and inhibitor at installation. A permanent in-line filter helps control circulating debris and magnetite; any scale protection for relevant potable-water components is a separate decision based on the boiler design, water and manufacturer’s instructions.

As at 17 July 2026, BUS offers £7,500 for eligible air-to-water, ground-source or water-source heat pumps. From 21 July 2026, eligible residential air-to-air heat pumps have a £2,500 category, and a time-limited £9,000 level applies to specified off-gas-grid oil/LPG replacements using eligible air-to-water or ground-source heat pumps. Scheme rules apply; begin with a heat-loss and emitter assessment.

The choice depends on heat loss, incoming mains flow, peak hot-water demand, space for a cylinder and the existing gas supply. A combi may suit some one-bathroom homes; a system boiler and cylinder may better serve simultaneous demand. The installer should test and size rather than assume from property size alone.

Why verified plumbers — not a general directory

A boiler install is a big spend and a safety-critical, notifiable job — the wrong fitter can leave the work unnotified and put warranty cover at risk. Every listing here is checked before it goes live and re-verified annually: we confirm the business is legitimately trading and verify the named contact, we check evidence of public liability insurance, and we confirm the installer covers Putney’s SW15 postcodes before a profile is approved. Because installation is notifiable gas work, we confirm Gas Safe registration directly with the Gas Safe Register — ask to see the ID card. Profiles may be suspended or removed if credentials lapse or credible concerns are raised — see the full verification process →. Plumbers pay a flat monthly listing fee; there’s no pay-to-play ranking and no per-enquiry middleman fee — your enquiry goes straight to the installer.

A Boiler Plus-compliant, properly notified boiler installed onto a suitably cleaned, inhibited and filtered system is better protected than one fitted without the required assessment and preparation. In hard-water Putney, scale protection for relevant potable-water components should be considered separately from corrosion control in the sealed heating circuit.
